42 Letters in Sapphire

In all previous "essential constructs" we concentrated on the 216 letters of Shem HaMeforash (the Explicit Name). This post will focus on the 42 letters of it's geometric opposite, and we will provide an explanation with three-dimensional models to show that:

  • The 42 letter Name is the geometric marriage partner of the 216 letters;
  • The two Names are quite literally the geometric equivalent of a hand in a glove;
  • The letters of both Names in combination with one another, fully define the measured geometry of the evan shetiyah or foundation stone; and that,
  • This specific geometry manifests itself, not only in the actual letters of the Torah, but also such things as the history of Israel.

Our sole purpose in revealing this information is to encourage righteous men and women everywhere to think about God's Name, and here, in particular, the 42 letter Name. Together with the 216 letter Name, these Names literally create the mathematic foundation of the universe. We will not explore the letters themselves, only those aspects that pertain to the geometry mentioned. This is sufficient to demonstrate the premise.

To accomplish all of the above we will present the information in the form of a simple meditation. Our journey will start with the volumetric measure of the primordial torah (the combined cubic form of the luchot/tablets) which you have already seen in previous posts. A solid model of the foundation stone is shown below 6 x 6 x 6 = 216 cubic handbreadths.

The Sapphire "Brickwork"

Begin by contemplating that the 216 cubic handbreadths are a manifestation of the 216 letters of God's Name. Then contemplate that the number of square handbreadths on the six surfaces of the clear sapphire stone is also 216 (6 x 36 = 216). These 216 square handbreadths are like windows that allow us to peer more deeply into the geometry.

Meditate on the fact that each cubic handbreadth amounts to a measured amount of "empty space" defined by a visible framework of lines that define each cubic handbreadth within the "brickwork" of the cube.

This primordial reality is the origin of all that was, all that is, and all that will be. As you mentally process the geometry, note how each vertical and horizontal linear handbreadth provides a frame around the space inside each cubic handbreadth, and understand that these linear handbreadths are a mathematic function of the 216 letters in God's Name mentioned above.

Once you have a handle on the geometry, "look" at each and every face on the primordial torah (which is 6 handbreadths by 6 handbreadths). You can see with your own eyes, that each face is a measured "set" of 42 vertical  linear handbreadths (these
42 vertical linear handbreadths are modeled below and highlighted in blue). Note that the set consists of seven columns of 6 vertical handbreadths: 7 x 6 = 42 (the Hai Gaon wrote the Name as seven sets of six letters). Contemplate these seven columns and their measure of six handbreadths in you mind's eye. Count each handbreadth one by one. Then meditate on the fact that the 42 vertical handbreadths are only half of the equation. The other half is measured by a "set" of 42 horizontal  linear handbreadths. See these in you mind's eye as well, and count them one by one.

These references and the measurements to which they allude, are a reflection of a larger reality. Our perception of the physical universe is a mere shadow of the letters in God's Name, both as
42 and 216.

Now envision the 42 vertical handbreadths against the 42 horizontal handbreadths and understand that the "windows" created by this latticework of linear handbreadths hide the 216 spaces of the cubic handbreadths, just like the King (God) who is hidden from view in  Shir HaShirim Who "peer[s] through the lattices" and "observes [Israel] through the windows" (Song of Songs 4:9).

Now, focus on one face in particular, the front face, and mentally envision the "windows" on this face of the foundation stone, but contemplate just the
42 vertical linear handbreadths of these "windows" (as shown below). These linear handbreadths constitute one set of 42. This is the first complete "set" of 42 vertical linear handbreadths, however there are many more.

Proceed from this face, into the stone, moving deeper, layer by layer (each layer is one more handbreadth into the stone). Progress through all seven layers, one at a time, until you reach the back face. Note that as you progress from the front to the back, each layer is its own separate and distinct "set" of 42 vertical linear handbreadths. The set pictured below is merely the first set. By the time you get to the back face, you will have passed through seven sets of 42 vertical linear handbreadths.

Having completed the first seven, contemplate that together these sets of 42 linear handbreadths are "written through and through, from the front to the back."

Now proceed to meditate on the left face in the same manner. Contemplate that this face of the foundation stone is the eighth complete "set" of
42 vertical linear handbreadths. Then proceed again, handbreadth by handbreadth through the sapphire. Pass through each of the seven layers (each with its 42 vertical linear handbreadths) until you reach the right face noting that each layer is again its own separate and distinct "set" of 42 vertical linear handbreadths. These seven are the second seven sets.

Having completed the second seven (total now 14 sets) contemplate that together these measured sets of
42 linear handbreadths are "written through and through (in this case) from the left to the right."

Do the same now from top to bottom. Mentally envision the
42 vertical linear handbreadths on the top, and then proceed from this top face, through each of the seven layers until you reach the bottom face. Each of these layers is of course its own separate and distinct  "set" of 42 vertical linear handbreadths, as were each of the others. This is the third set of seven distinct sets of 42 vertical linear handbreadths, and the total is now 21 sets.

Having completed the third seven, contemplate that together these sets of 42 linear handbreadths are "written through and through (in this case) from the top to the bottom."

We have thus far contemplated 21 separate and distinct sets of
42 vertical linear handbreadths, and 21 is of course half of 42, but we have not yet contemplated the sets of horizontal linear handbreadths!

Go back to the first "face" and start over again, but this time meditate on the
42 horizontal linear handbreadths. Proceed through each layer as before until you've perceived all seven sets from the front to the back. Then meditate on the seven sets of horizontal handbreadths from the left to the right, and then the final set of seven sets from the top to the bottom. When you are finished, you will have passed through another 21 sets, and together with the 21 previous (vertical) sets, you have journeyed through a total of 42 sets of 42 linear handbreadths (half being vertical and the other half being horizontal).

Carefully contemplate that all of these 42 measured geometric sets of 42 linear handbreadths are a function of the 42 letter Name, and that this Name is "written through--and-through, from the front to the back, from the left to the right, and from the top to the bottom." Take time to understand that these linear handbreadths are the framework for each of the 216 cubic handbreadths of the evan shetiyah - literally the geometric hand (216 cubic handbreadths) in the mathematic glove (42 sets of 42 linear handbreadths) defining "the stone" that was the [mathematic] foundation of the world - indeed the cosmos.

It is thus written: "These are the journeys of the children of Israel" (referring to our journeys through the wilderness). How many journeys were there? There were
42 specific journeys (BaMidbar 33:1 - 49). The gematria of the phrase "these are the journeys" is 216. By meditating on the geometry of the stone, you have just made 42 "journeys" (each with a measure of 42 linear handbreadths) through a wilderness of 216 cubic handbreadths. These journeys are the origin of their physical counterpart in the events that form the history of Israel. The StoRy is indeed "in the SapPhiRe" ("the SipPuR is in the SaPiR").

In summary, we have seen how the 42 Letter Name is a geometric counterpart to the 216 letters (spaces versus lines). We have also seen how these letters in combination with one another, define the measured geometry of the evan shetiyah (foundation stone) and finally; we have also provided an example (above) how this geometry manifests itself, not only in the letters of the Torah (BaMidbar 33:1 - 49) but also such things as the history of Israel (in "the journeys").

This explanation was brought down and given as a devar Torah on the 42nd day of the Omer in the year 5776 from creation (and posted to this blog Erev Shabbat before Shavuot). With this written version, you are now able to see how the geometry of the foundation stone (luchot/tablets) "reflects" the letters of the 42 letter Name, and how the geometry of the 42 are connected to the geometry of the 216 (please note that the above geometry involves three distinct sets of seven opposite three distinct sets of seven. This pattern is found throughout the linguistic structure of the Torah - examples are presented in other posts.

We would only add that the evan shetiyah (primordial torah) was divided and brought down by Moshe and given to Israel as the luchot. The Jewish people were chosen to preserve this knowledge. It has been safeguarded for posterity, so that mankind would one day "wake up" and recognize One True God (and know that there really is a God with one Explicit Name and its primal abbreviations). The ultimate goal is to ensure that human consciousness will one day return to its original Adamic level.

Finally, having revealed the nature of the 42 sets of 42 linear handbreadths in the above matrix, and explaining that these sets are a mathematic reflection of the 42 letter Name, we here suggest a homework assignment for those so inclined. Just as there are 42 identical sets of a specific mathematic function (i.e. 42 linear handbreadths) so too, there are 216 identical geometric functions of 216 within the same matrix. See if you can identify and locate these 216 sets of 216 elements in the measurements of "the stone," then contemplate the mathematic relationship between the two sets and see if you can calculate the odds that they exist merely as "a coincidence" within the measurements of the shnei luchot / two tablets. In other words, is this a "coincidence," or is it a statistically significant indicator of a larger reality? This concludes our post on the "42 Letters in Sapphire."

The next construct is an explanation of where the fine-structure constant (a fundamental aspect of physics) is hidden in the measure of the foundation stone and how it correlates with God's Name: The Fine-Structure Constant & the Luchot.

Author's Note: When the Sapphire Magen David went online in 2012 there were no websites anywhere on the Internet that explained the relationship between the geometry of the luchot and the letters of God's Name. None! You could do a search for "216 letters" or "216 cubic handbreadths" and get zero results. This was (and is) also true as it pertains to the corpus of texts passed down by the Sages of Israel. There is no written explanation, anywhere, not even in the most lofty of kabbalistic sources. There were hints to be sure, but these were without explanation (like the 288 sparks mentioned by the ARI that will be explained in the next two posts on "The Name in the Stone" and "The Supernal Stream"). Every instance where a hint is provided, the source indicates that (while) the Sage may have possessed the ability to see "the measure of" something in the cosmic scheme of things, "he did not explain it." The Sapphire Magen David was (and still is) the only in-depth source on this subject. Although since then, numerous Jewish sites, especially those dealing with kabbalah and esoteric matters, have started to delve into the 216 letters as they pertain to the measured geometry of the luchot. As a result, the connection is now more commonly recognized. I do find this ironic. Until it was modeled and explained here on the Sapphire Magen David, other sources were still debating the size and shape of the luchot. Having kept the secret for most of my life, it was my intention to see the fulfillment of the prayer "...may you shine a new light on zion, and may we all speedily merit that light." I have always believed that this light involved an awareness of God's Name and how it quite literally rules the universe.
